Mr. Argyle joins in with the 5th and 6th graders in a game of soccer during lunch recess.  Even the principal needs a little recess.

In a web article, "The Importance of Recess", by LEARN NC, a program of the UNC School of Education, it states, "Recess is much more than free time. Recess should instead be viewed as an opportunity for students to not only engage in physical activity, but also to learn about and build their character, develop cooperation skills and practice social interaction."

This will be my first year teaching! I am so excited to be able to learn from this experience!  This is a wonderful opportunity!  I am looking forward to this new adventure and I am excited to have the support and mentorship of those I will be working with.

Hobbies/Interests

I love spending time with my children! I also love being outdoors.  Some of my favorite outdoor activities are hiking, camping, biking and running.  I also run in races and just last summer ran my first half marathon.  I plan to run a few more this summer!  I also love music.  I am a pianist and taught piano for several years prior to going back to pursue a teaching degree.  It was very rewarding and exciting to see my students grow as musicians and as individuals.  I also have to add that I love to travel! I have traveled to seven different countries in my life and I plan to travel more when I have the means to do so!  That is ME! I am looking forward to meeting all of you.

Mrs. Haynes introduced three white mice to her students today as she read "Mouse Paint" by Ellen Stoll Walsh.  The white mice blended into a white piece of paper to stay out of sight from the cat.  One day the cat took a nap.  The three mice found three jars of paint, jumped in, and became red, blue, and yellow.  Paint spilled out from the jars and as the mice danced around on the paper, the paint mixed together, making other beautiful colors.

After hearing the story, the first grade students were able to mix the primary colors together to create other colors and frost vanilla wafers.

Friday morning as the students were sitting quietly in their seats, they were surprised to hear the blaring sound of the fire alarm.  The teachers directed them to safety.  They all lined up and walked outside to their meeting spot.  The teachers proceeded to take role and account for all of their students.  At last Mr. Argyle and Mr. Kern gave permission for the students to return to their classrooms.

We are a GREAT school because we respect and care about each other.

The students attended an assembly to remind them how to respect and care for others.  A few of the items that Mr. Argyle taught were

  • To Say Please STOP - that hurts my feelings, Walk Away, or Talk to a Teacher
  • Follow Directions the First Time
  • Always Be in the Right Place
  • No Running in the Hallways
  • Keep Hands, Feet, Mouth, AND Objects to yourself
  • Dress Appropriately
  • No Weapons, Cell Phones (except in backpacks), Toys, Games, or Electronic Devices

We know these rules will help each of us feel safe and respected.
