In November the First Grade held their Literacy Night for all First Grade students and parents.  They had a remarkable turnout.  Parents were given tools to help improve their child's reading and writing.  After the mini classes, the students sang songs for their parents followed by a drawing for prizes.

All the students in attendance went home with a new book.  One student from each class won a backpack filled with school supplies, and one student from each class won a reading bench, made by Mr. Argyle and Mrs. Ellis, filled with books.

Mr. Kern was born in Fort Ord, California, which was an army base.  He enjoys hiking and going to movies.  One of his favorite movies is the recently released "Into the Woods".  His favorite color is aqua marine, and blueberries are one of his favorite foods to eat.

At Santaquin Elementary we all enjoy listening to Mr. Kern read.  I asked him to choose a favorite book.  If you know Mr. Kern that was a hard task because he has so many favorite books.  But he came up with "Out of the Dust" by Karen Heese and "Knuffle Bunny" by Mo Willems.

We sure appreciate having Mr. Kern at our school.  He always makes everyone feel important, and is the life of the party.  Thanks for all you do!

Thanks to our PTA for decorating the hallway with hearts.  The students "ooh" and "aah" as they walk under all the hearts and pause a moment to find their name on a heart.

"100 days I’ve been in school

My teacher says that’s really cool!

 I’m 100 days smarter, yes, it’s true

100 days of reading, writing and math too!

I’ve learned a lot of exciting things

Let’s see what the next 100 brings!

We’re going to have fun, we’ll let out a cheer

Our hundredth day is finally here!"

Thirty-three students had the opportunity to decorate Valentine cookies with Mr. Argyle for our reading celebration activity.  These students were also given a book to take home.

Great job and keep reading!
