For the 2018 season, Lagoon will be introducing the “Summer Fever Fundraiser”. We are hoping to seize the excitement for summer by giving students and families a jump starts on Summer Fun at Lagoon. The Summer Fever Fundraiser will offer an exclusive discount to Utah School Families, and the Education Foundations will reap the benefits.  This is a partnership that helps the Nebo Education Foundation fund teacher grants.

Brighton Bowles a 6th grader in Mrs. Rawle's class was our only student who filled out a perfect bracket for our Library March Madness!  Our Upper Grade Winning Book was Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and our Lower Grade Winning book was The Legend of Rock Paper Scissors.

The winning books were picked by students in 4th, 5th, and 6th grade who voted for their favorite books from the 16 most checked-out books at the school and students in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade voted for their favorite book Mrs. Rindy has read aloud in the library.  Congratulations Brighton!Image removed.

Our students have been having a blast doing centers in the library.  Some of the new centers include reading big books, creating their own bookmarks, reading on the bean bags, playing literacy games, and using whisper phones to help with fluency and expression.  Our students are also participating in March Madness!  4th, 5th, and 6th graders are voting for their favorite books from the 16 most checked-out books at the school. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders are voting for their favorite book Mrs. Rindy has read aloud in the library.  Each week, votes are cast on iPads or Chromebooks and soon we'll have our winning Best Books decided.  Ask your student to tell you about their favorite library center and which books are in the Final Four!

Do you like Sardines or Guacamole?  How about oysters and olives?  The students in Mrs. Smith's 3rd grade class had a lesson on trying new things.  First they noted what food items they think they would like, then they got to choose which foods they wanted to try.  The food choices included raisens, green olives, guacamole,  sardines, oysters, cottage cheese, hot cheetos, spam, and crackers.  After they tasted each food, they noted if they liked it or disliked it then compared their before and after results. Finally they graphed the differences of what they thought they would like versus what they really ended up liking or disliking.  What foods do you think you would like?

In Mrs. Tucker’s class Sam the Shape stealer came and stole all our shapes. The students had to solve a bunch of clues in order to find the correct codes to unlock each lock on the box. It was so much fun and the students loved it!
Special thanks to Mr. H. for helping to create such an engaging activity!

SafeUT Awareness Days February 22 & 23

In light of the recent events in Florida and other tragedies that have happened around the country, Nebo School District is teaming up with KSL on February 22, 2018, as we Stand Up for a Safe Utah. Utah has a very powerful resource and that is the SafeUT app. As you all know, the SafeUT app provides real-time crisis intervention and has been proven to save lives and stopped planned school attacks.

Our goal is to make sure that every parent, student and educator is aware of the app and has it downloaded on their phone.

Throughout the day, KSL will be highlighting all that the app can do, the history behind it, the success stories and much more. In addition, there will be some fun for the students. Below is the outline to encourage student involvement:
· Encourage your friends to download the app
· Use hashtag #SafeUT #santaquinelementary on posts

KSL Contest:
Individuals will be able to share a screenshot of their phone with the app downloaded for a chance to win a $50 visa card.
These screenshots will need to be posted in the contest on the KSL TV Facebook page.
The school that is tagged the most by their students will receive 100 pizzas from KSL!
The contest will start Thursday, February 22 and Friday, February 23 at 3 p.m.
Watch KSL News at 5 p.m. on Friday to see which school will be receiving 100 pizzas!
