Author, Adam Sidwell, visited Santaquin Elementary on Monday, September 29. He brought with him his new picture book, "Fetch". The students were enthralled as Mr. Sidwell showed pictures and a short movie clip on the screen. He invited Logan, a Second Grade student, to read "Fetch" to the other students.
Mr. Sidwell also took the time to explain the procedure of writing a book. He encouraged the students to set a goal and write that many words a week.
We appreciate him coming to our school and sharing his talent with us.

The second grade students have been learning about apples all day as they awaited a visit from Johnny Appleseed.
The students made an apple sequencing foldable book, water colored pictures of apples, graphed their favorite way to eat apples, which is caramel, and did a science experiment with apples.
Johnny Appleseed finally made the the trek, in bare feet, to the second grade students. The students listened intently as he read a tall-tale story about himself. Each student was given an apple to take home at the end of the day.
FLUORIDE VARNISH PERMISSION SLIP

- Oral health is the #1 need identified by the Utah County Health Department nurses.

- We will be having a free dental campaign that will provide a dental kit to each student.
- All children, with parental consent, will be given an application of fluoride varnish. This FDA approved treatment is painted onto the teeth. It helps prevent cavities from occurring. It is free, quick, and painless.

The students at Santaquin Elementary were given a challenge to read during the summer. They were given a calendar to keep record of their reading minutes. Over 200 students returned their calendar at the beginning of the school year so that they could participate in the Reading Rodeo.
The students were able to Pan for Gold, Lasso a Fake Horse, Toss Horseshoes, participate in the Snake in My Boot Relay, and the Cattle Round-Up Obstacle Course.
After the relays they all settled around the camp with popcorn, s'mores, and water to listen to Mr. Goudy tell a story. And tell a story he did!
But that wasn't it. The moment they all were waiting for finally arrived. They all watched as Mr. Argyle chased a pig, caught it, and planted a big 'ole kiss on it! It sure was worth reading over the summer just to see that!
Thanks to everyone who helped with this event.

The team at Santaquin Elementary gathered early in August to get ready for the new year. New teachers were introduced as well as new ideas.
After Mr. Argyle introduced our school's 2014-2015 theme of "Everthing is Awesome When You're Part of a Team", from the "Lego Movie", the staff was divided into teams for various activities. We learned that it takes each of us to make our school successful.
As we were given opportunities to build objects out of Legos, we experienced that we all learn differently and that our instructions need to be very specific and detailed because we all visualize information based on our knowledge and experiences. We related that to our students and how each one interprets instruction in a variety of ways.
We all left with enthusiasm for the new school year. Santaquin Elementary is a great place to be. Don't forget, "Everything is Awesome When You're Part of Team!"
The Lego objects we built are the pictures displayed above.
