The Utah Shakespeare Festival is once again hitting the road with its Shakespeare-in-the-Schools touring production – this year performing one of the world’s first psychological thrillers, William Shakespeare’s Macbeth.

An evening performance for everyone is this Tuesday, April 16, at 7:30 at Springville High School, 1205 East 900 South, Springville, UT. Another performance will be held on Monday, April 15, at 3:30 p.m. at Spanish Fork High, 300 West 99 North, Spanish Fork. And, admission is free.

Michael Bahr, the festival’s education director directed this production. “For many of our audiences this will be the first time they have seen a professional Shakespeare production,” said Bahr. “This program seeks to entertain, enrich, and educate with innovative and accessible performances to rural and urban schools and communities, many of which would not have this opportunity otherwise.”

Come be entertained and enriched with one of Shakespeare’s greatest plays – and again, admission is free!!!

First grade enjoyed learning about the life cycle of the butterfly and concluded their learning with a butterfly party where they pretended to be butterflies and sucked nectar with their straw proboscis.

Third grade students learn about communities and how they work.  Our students created their own community in each class.  They are given the opportunity to run for mayor by giving a campaign speech.  They also decide what will be in the community and then map it out.  Students cover a shoe box and decorate it to look like something in their community.

First graders in Mrs. McMullin's class started their measurement unit by jumping and measuring their jumps. Teams worked together to build and count cubes. When asked about their jumps one student replied "I'm just a really good jumper I guess!" Students  were very excited to be up and moving for math. "This is the farthest jump I've ever jumped in my whole entire life! I'm serious!"   #santaquinelementary  #measurementfirstgrade  #firstgrade  #mcmullen

Mr. Dave Packard has been with us for seven years.  He is a great help in our lunchroom, cleaning our school, shoveling snow and all around happiness spreader.  Dave recently moved with his family out of the area.  We will miss his smile and friendship.   We had a surprise assembly and all of the students sang to him. No good bye's, just see you later.

Good Luck Dave!

Third Grade students in Mrs. Snelgrove’s class researched ocean animals and learned how living things need non-living things to survive. This integrated technology unit allowed the students to learn how to research online using Chromebooks in the classroom. Then the students used Adobe Spark to create narrated movies about their animals. Finally, the students created four giant ocean scenes using the life-size animals they made. Special thanks to Mr. Hanosek, district technology specialist.  Thank you also to Mrs. McKenna and Mr. Packard for their assistance in helping the students hang their artwork.

Third grade is learning about engineering. We have made toothpick towers, spagetti towers and pendulums.  We were lucky enough to have a parent of a third grader come and tell us what he does at work as a process engineer.  It was great to learn how our education could impact our future. The future looks bright with these students learning to think like an engineer. Thank you Mr. Simister!!

Each year Discovery Gateway comes to do an assembly with the 5th grade. They conduct physical and chemical changes experiments for the students to review our science core. After the hour assembly, the students have the opportunity to attend a lab session where they get to show what they learned by conducting their own experiments. It is a great assembly each year.

Dr. Seuss' birthday is March 2nd.  Many schools across America spend time reading to celebrate his birthday.  Santaquin Elementary had a school wide read-a-thon at the end of the day. One of his most popular books is, "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish."  The school provided Swedish Fish and Goldfish crackers.
