Discovery Space Center

Submitted by annalyn.greer on

Students from Santaquin 6th grade were able to travel "to new frontiers" as part of their space center experience on Thursday, April 25.

The new Discovery Space Center had a blow up dome planetarium for the students to do some star-gazing without having to stay up all night.

A lesson was given to the students on light, sound, and outer space.

The highlight of the experience was the chance to have a "simulated" flight experience and learn the value of team work.

Because of a few glitches on the field trip for one of the groups, the entire 6th grade has been invited to bring their entire family to a Monday Night star show at the Discovery Space Center in Pleasant Grove FREE of charge!  Tell the director you are with the Santaquin Elementary group.  Information is available at:

Are You Smarter Than A Santaquin Fifth Grader?

Submitted by kali.brown on
For their End of Year Science Review, the 5th Grade Teachers at Santaquin Elementary came up with a totally fun idea to engage their students ... Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader / Minute to Win It! Guest contestants from the Administrative Team struggled to keep up with these fifth graders as they demonstrated their knowledge about the Earth's surface, Matter, Electricity, and Magnets.  The students practiced the movement of rocks, which is called erosion, in a relay race moving rocks from one bucket to the other.  They had one minute to mix pancake batter, demonstrating the chemical change that took place when the ingredients were combined together.  For electricity, they had to blow up a balloon and rub the balloon against their head to make static electricity, then they had to run down and make a complete circuit.   To demonstrate their understanding of magnets, the students needed to pull apart magnets with an extremely strong magnetic force.  What a fun way to review science!  I think everyone learned something today ... thanks fifth grade!!
