On Thursday, March 28th, our very own Mrs. Nilson was awarded the prestigious Crystal Apple Award.  Mrs. Nilson is a favorite among students for her generous and caring nature.  She goes the extra mile to meet the needs of students and faculty alike.  We feel so blessed to have Mrs. Nilson as one of our treasured teachers at Santaquin Elementary.  Congratulations, Mrs. Nilson ... The school ground looked like it was littered!!  Upon closer inspection it was discovered that someone or something had left about 600 plastic Easter Eggs on both playgrounds and the grass inbetween.  Santaquin Second-grade students scrambled to pick up the eggs, then ran to their classrooms to see what was inside.

It was raining, but that didn't dampen any spirits.  It was a fun time!

Students from Mrs. Greer's sixth-grade class found a day with sunshine and ran outside to have their picture taken with the Vernal Equinox sun casting a shadow.  Students learn that the sun is low in the sky during the winter and that the low sun casts a long shadow.  They also learn that the Autumnal and Vernal Equinoxes should have about the same length of shadow.  To prove this they take a picture close to the first day of Fall, the first day of Winter and the first day of Spring.

Good luck, Mrs. Gammell! 117.97 KB

Friday was a sad day for the students of Mrs. Rawle's sixth-grade class, and a bittersweet one for Mrs. Gammell who completed her student teaching on Friday.  The students will miss her amazing lessons, but Mrs. Gammell won't miss having all of the papers to write and the scary observations!.

We wish Mrs. Gammell best wishes as she now seeks employment for the next school year.  Some lucky students will get to have her as a teacher all year long!

Second Grade Visits Santaquin City

Submitted by kali.brown on

The second grade students at Santaquin Elementary had a fun 'walking field trip' to the Santaquin City Offices on Friday, March 25th.  The students learned a lot about the community they live in.  They enjoyed going to the museum, senior citizen center, jumping on a trampoline, sitting in the City Council chamber room, and learning about public works.  Thank you, Santaquin City, for a fun field trip!

Every year Leo the Leprechaun visits the second grade classes at Santaquin Elementary.  Leo sure loves to make a BIG mess and the teachers needed the students' help ... Each of the second graders worked to create a "trap" to catch Leo before he could mess up their classrooms!  Great work, students!

The gym was full to overflowing with parents and students reading together this morning at Santaquin Elementary!  Stories were read and doughnuts were devoured as families came together to enjoy our quarterly event.
